Video DescriptionDr. Beth Schwartz, Provost & Professor of Psychology, Endicott College and Dr. Laura Douglass, Dean, Van Loan School of Professional Studies speak to the program features offered by the Van Loan School.
- The Van Loan School is one part of Endicott College
that provides great flexibility for a different part
of the student population.
So typically on our Beverly Campus,
we have traditional-age college students.
But we recognize that there's also a need for this type
of education for non-traditional students,
for working adults or for young adults who have an interest
in going back to school either to start their education or
to complete their degree.
And the Van Loan School provides that flexibility needed for
that population of students.
- Returning to school is a really big deal.
And these are adults who are very, they're competent,
they're good in their fields, they have family.
And now they're adding a degree to
an already very busy life.
So our programs are really made to meet those student needs.
Our graduation rate is two times the national average.
And in part that is because we really put the student
in the center of what it is that we do.
And what we do is create curriculum that actually meets
those students' needs.
And we're listening to them and responding
to them all the time.
And that's part of the reason we
have accelerated seven week classes is
to really meet their needs,
so that they can figure out when can they go
on that business trip?
How can they meet their family needs?
Because we know where one piece in a moving life
to really meet that person's career and professional goals.
The ultimate goal for our students is one
that they're employed. And I don't mean a job.
I mean a career.
I mean, so a place where they can really dedicate themselves
and see themselves as pivotal actors in the world
who are creating the changes that they wanna see.
And number two,
we want those students to come out with a sense of vibrancy,
a sense of excitement about who they are as people
and what they can achieve.
And then third,
we want them to have academic expertise in their area.
And each student does a senior thesis project.
And these senior thesis projects are amazing.
It's an opportunity for students to dive deep
and really figure out what is that one thing
I wanna know more about and where I can really contribute
to the world.
- There's a great deal of evidence from research
in higher end that shows the value of a bachelor's degree.
And that value comes and increased lifetime earnings.
Despite that there is cost upfront,
there's a significant increase lifetime earnings.
But it's also interestingly showed that those who receive
a bachelor's degree have higher life satisfaction,
are more engaged in their community.
They simply receive the kind of experiences and skills
that they need, not just in their career,
but as lifelong learners to be more successful and
a greater satisfaction overall.
- I think most of our students come here with
a little bit of concern.
Can I do this?
Can I complete my degree?
At the Endicott difference is that we'll get
you to the finish line.
We're really dedicated to your success.
And not only do you get an academic advisor who serves
as an academic coach, a one-stop shop,
that'll get you through.
We have faculty who know that,
that you might need extra support.
We have a writing center that is amazing.
It can help you really get all the things you need to bring
your writing to that next level of expertise.
We have a career center that can get you to that next level
with your resume and your professional identity.
These things are all here for you.
The number one mistake that students make,
they think they have to do it all alone.
Well, you don't and not here at Endicott.
We're here with you every step of the way.
